The University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) is Ghana's premier institution for mining, petroleum, and geological engineering education. Located in Tarkwa, the heart of Ghana's gold mining belt in the Western Region, UMaT provides highly specialised training for the extractive industries. The university has strong partnerships with mining companies operating in Ghana (Gold Fields, Newmont, AngloGold Ashanti, etc.) which provide internship and employment opportunities for students. UMaT's programmes are unique in Ghana and attract students from across West Africa. The campus features mining simulation laboratories, geological field stations, and modern engineering workshops.
