The University of Cape Coast (UCC) is one of Ghana's most prestigious public universities, founded in 1962. Originally established to train graduate teachers for Ghana's secondary schools and teacher training colleges, UCC has expanded into a comprehensive university with five colleges: College of Education Studies, College of Humanities and Legal Studies, College of Health and Allied Sciences, College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences, and College of Distance Education. UCC is located on a beautiful hillside campus overlooking the Gulf of Guinea in Cape Coast and is renowned for its teacher education programmes, which remain the best in Ghana. The College of Distance Education (CODE) is the largest distance education provider in West Africa, with learning centres across all 16 regions of Ghana. UCC also has strong programmes in agriculture, health sciences, law, and tourism. The university boasts modern facilities including a medical school, teaching hospital, science laboratories, a library, sports complex, and numerous halls of residence.
